The first phase of the battle did not produce the results I had hoped for. When they lost the battleship, the toads didn’t leave. They chose to stay and continue their assault on the fourth planet. What kept them there? I continued to believe that the metropolitan system of the lizards was not a goal for them, but a means to summon us to a fight to the end. It was the fact that the toads were morally prepared for such a battle, despite the arrival of three very dangerous ships, that was completely at variance with my idea of the adversary. However, the fact remained that the toads left us no choice, and my fleet was waiting for orders. When the loading of the ammunition had been completed, the order was given.

This time, our fleet has come out of jump near the star's zone of influence. Such a jump carried with it some risks of potential gravitational anomalies, but now we hadn't time for long intra-system flights.

“Transport ring segments, dock and activate portal on readiness. Fleet, start acceleration toward the fourth planet.”

In giving that order, I struggled with the feeling that right now I’m making a big mistake, but it was that same case when a soldier had a duty and no choice. I remembered how Major Mbia, on Groombridge-2, had raised his scouts, who had only light hand weapons, to attack the quarg combat robots unit. He didn’t have a choice then either, and now I knew exactly how André felt. Still, I wasn’t going to just drive my fleet into a suicide attack. I was prepared for losses, for very heavy losses, but not for useless losses.

“General Clay, your primary mission is to bring down the enemy protective fields. This time, your place is in front of our formation. We need to synchronize your attack with the torpedo salvo. General, these are our last torpedoes, there'll be no second chance.

Lit-ta, all the dreadnoughts are under your command. Your squadron must stay in the rear. We’ll need the shells with the combat substance in the final stages of combat when the toads' shields are extinguished. Your job is to live to this point and save your ships for the ultimate strike. Titans and the heavy pennants of the Federation fleet attack simultaneously with the Imperial battleships and with the same tasks.

'Invisibles', aircraft carriers, and Titans, be ready for synchronous torpedo salvo. After firing 'Invisibles' and aircraft carriers immediately leave to the point of assembly with the aid of transport ring. Any questions?”

There was a tense silence at the command post, which was interrupted by the report of the space control operator: “The toads' ships stopped their assault on the fourth planet, abandoned the low orbits and set out on an intercepting course.”

On the tactical projection, 22 markers of the enemy heavy ships began to accelerate rapidly, reducing the distance with our fleet. After all, there were 22 of them - four damaged cruisers have apparently left the system.
